This concert marks the combined release of the album, Like as the Hart, settings of Psalm 42, and the launch of the 15th century historical novel, The Templar’s Garden, which is partially set in New College, Oxford. The programme includes rarely heard pieces featuring treble voices by Ockgehem and Buxtehude, as well as world premieres of two newly commissioned settings of the psalm by Antony Pitts and Alexander L’Estrange. The evening provides a unique opportunity to hear how a single biblical text has inspired a remarkable range of settings of different styles and dates.
