Maurice Ravel String Quartet in F major
The Temple Church welcomes Matthew Rose and the Albion Quartet to perform an evening of music by Ravel and Barber with the highlight of the evening being the first performance of Kate Whitley’s settings to music of a selection of poems by Charlotte Mew.
Matthew Rose, known throughout the world for his operatic roles, recitals and recordings, will perform with The Albion Quartet: Tamsin Waley-Cohen and Emma Parker, violins, Rosalind Ventris, viola, and cellist Nathaniel Boyd.
The programme will include Ravel’s String Quartet in F Major, Samuel Barber’s setting of Matthew Arnold’s Dover Beach and the first performance of Charlotte Mew’s poems set to music. These will be introduced by Kate Whitley, the composer as well as cofounder and artistic director of MultiStory, and Julia Copus, the poet who is writing a biography of Charlotte Mew. They are to be performed again with The Albion Quartet as part of this year’s Aldeburgh Festival.
