The Old Bailey Choir was the inspiration of the Witness Service Team at the Old Bailey and over the last three years has attracted singers from within and outside the Old Bailey. In 2018 the choir and orchestra performed The Armed Man in the Royal Courts of Justice and last year a concert of Baroque music including Vivaldi’s Gloria and Handel’s Coronation Anthems in Stationers’ Hall . With the support of the friends of the Old Bailey Choir, there will be 60 singers performing the Messiah. We thank Dame Geraldine Andrews for again providing the chamber orchestra.
The concert is in aid of the Sheriffs’ and Recorder’s Fund, a charity founded over 200 years ago to help ex-prisoners get a new start in life, making grants for training, tools of trade, clothing and household equipment. In addition it has provided funds to provide a more attractive environment for prisoners to meet with their families at a London prison visitor centre.
We are delighted to be performing in The Temple Church by kind permission of the Master of the Temple whose father, Mervyn Griffith-Jones CBE MC, had a life-long connection to the Old Bailey, culminating in his appointment as Common Serjeant from 1964 to 1979.
Running Time: 90 mins, no interval
