Tenor Ian Bostridge and pianist Julius Drake return to Middle Temple Hall for a concert that marks the 25th anniversary of their first recital together in November 1992. The first half of the programme features Britten’s arrangements of works by English composers Purcell, Pelham Humfrey and William Croft and Britten’s The Holy Sonnets of John Donne. John Donne’s sermons at the Inns of Court were famous for their wit and erudition and over seventy volumes from his personal library can be found in the Rare Book and Manuscript Collection of Middle Temple Library. The Piatti Quartet, one of the most distinguished quartets of their generation, join Ian and Julius in the second half for a performance of Vaughan Williams’ poignant song cycle, On Wenlock Edge.
Tickets include an interval drink.
This concert will be recorded for deferred broadcast; we would ask you to arrive in time for the start of the concert, if at all possible, to avoid disruption from latecomers.
This concert is generously supported by Katie Bradford.
