The wood-panelled Parliament Chamber of Inner Temple is an exquisite salon for chamber music. In April, this normally private room plays host to one of Europe's finest piano trios in a heartfelt programme combining one of Beethoven's crowning achievements, the glorious Archduke, with Shostakovich's elegiac Second Piano Trio - a profoundly moving response to personal tragedy and the horrors of war. The concert opens in the lush, late Romantic soundworld of Frank Bridge's passionate Phantasie Trio.
Bridge: Phantasie Trio in C minor
Shostakovich: Piano Trio No 2 in E minor
Beethoven: Piano Trio in B-flat "Archduke"
Duration: approximately 110 minutes (including interval)
