Temple Church

Choral Evensong

Temple Singers

Today's evensong is sung by one of London's finest professional church choirs. It marks the 400th anniversary of Orlando Gibbons (who died on 5 June 1625) and includes his glorious Short Service - a gem of a setting of the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis, hugely popular in the composer's lifetime and beyond.

Gibbons' church music is his greatest achievement. His skillful setting of the English language to music and his gift for writing memorable melodies combine to great effect in this setting of the canticles.

A chance to pause at the end the working day, and bask in the combined beauty of music, word, and architecture in this ancient, numinous space - as the early evening sun streams through the windows.
