Mary Bevan (soprano)
Nicky Spence (tenor)
Joseph Middleton (piano)
Mary Bevan, Nicky Spence and Joseph Middleton host an evening of songs and duets by Noël Coward, Weill, Messager, Rorem, Satie, Poulenc, Gershwin, Britten, Walton.
Three of the UK’s most popular recitalists join forces for an evening in which an imagined party, taking place in the salon of Noël Coward, sees a colourful cacophony of characters jostle for the limelight. By turns touching, intimate, riotous, thoughtful, funny and heartbreaking, this fictional salon will explore all of life.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Noel Coward, celebrated musicians Mary Bevan, Nicky Spence and Joseph Middleton join forces for this performance of works by Noel Coward and his contemporaries. Featuring songs such as Parisian Pierrot and The Man I Love, the evening comprises a collection of solos, duets and instrumental songs by composers such as Ned Rorem, Liza Lehmann, William Walton and Benjamin Britten.
This concert is generously sponsored by Sir Christopher Clarke
The performance will include a short interval and should finish at approx. 2130.
"The selection of songs made here by soprano Mary Bevan and tenor Nicky Spence, with shimmering, Jeeves-like accompaniment from pianist Joseph Middleton, includes a number of composers who are way out of period but still in the mood. Each is given full value by a pair of opera singers who are plainly having a ball, to which you are cordially invited."
Norman Lebrecht"★★★★★ Ambling easily between English and French in composers from Coward to Poulenc, Bevan and Spence bring a supreme lightness of touch without descending into irritating tweeness, all superbly accompanied by Joseph Middleton."
